How to back up your Limitless pendant transcripts

The pendant is the most personal piece of capture hardware most of us have ever worn. It listens to conversations with our partners, our therapists, our kids. It hears the half- thoughts we mutter at our desk. And every word lives in Limitless's cloud by default — not yours. Here's how to fix that.

The export, in 4 steps

  • Open the Limitless web dashboard and sign in.
  • Go to Settings → Data & Privacy → Export.
  • Request the full transcript export. It usually arrives in a few minutes.
  • Save the file somewhere outside Limitless — a personal drive, an encrypted vault, a backup disk. Anywhere but their account.

The file is text, not audio, so it's small. There's no excuse not to do this monthly.

What you're actually protecting against

  • Account suspension. Rare, but not zero. Hardware companies pull accounts for chargebacks, terms disputes, payment failures. You don't want to find out which one applies to you on a Tuesday morning.
  • Service shutdown. Limitless is well-funded, but the consumer hardware graveyard is long. Pebble. Revolv. Sonos's old speakers. Insteon. Treat any cloud-backed device as rented until you've exported.
  • Quiet feature changes. Companies pivot. Pricing changes. Free tiers get squeezed. The transcript you assumed you'd always have access to may get gated behind a higher plan tomorrow.
  • You leaving Limitless. Maybe you switch to Plaud or a self-hosted setup. Maybe you just stop wearing it. The years of captured context shouldn't disappear with your subscription.

Why Limitless probably won't fix this for you

The transcript IS the product. The reason the pendant feels magic is that everything you've ever said is searchable in their app. Making that data trivially portable to a competitor undermines the moat. Expect exports to keep working (they're legally and ethically table-stakes) but don't expect a one-click "send my transcripts to Notion" button. That's not in their interest.

Portability has to come from your side of the fence — the same dynamic as every other cloud product you've ever used.

Short answer

Export your Limitless transcripts monthly from Settings → Data & Privacy → Export. Store the file outside Limitless's cloud. Load it into a vault that distills the captured conversation into a persona you can paste into any AI — that way, when the pendant breaks, the company pivots, or you just move on, the years of context stay with you.

The portable answer

Konshus has a Limitless importer (Founding and above). You drop the export file in once a month and we extract the meaningful atoms — the decisions you talked through, the people you mentioned, the themes that keep recurring. The full transcript stays in your vault for later. The distilled persona is what feeds the AIs you actually use.
