Does Grokbot remember you?

Sort of — and the "sort of" is the interesting part. Grokbot knows your public self better than almost any assistant, and your private self barely at all.

What it stores

Saved facts. With memory on, it keeps explicit facts across chats — your role, your city, preferences you've stated. You can review and clear them in Settings → Data controls → Memory.

Your public activity. Signed into X with personalization on, it can pull on your posts and recent activity at question time. That produces a kind of continuity nothing else offers — and a real distortion, because your feed is a performance, not a life.

What it doesn't have

  • The decisions you made privately and the reasons behind them.
  • The people who matter to you who never appear in your feed.
  • Your journals, notes, documents and the work you don't publish.
  • Any of the above once you stop paying, get locked out, or move on.

Why that gap matters

An assistant that models you from your public output will keep giving advice to the version of you that posts. If the private version is the one making the decisions, that's the version it needs to know. The durable fix is to keep your own record of who you are — outside any single assistant — and let Grokbot read from it. How to do that.
